Our network includes Schools Library Services (SLS) across the country. Interested in the vital work of our SLS members? Read on.
What is a Schools Library Service?
Schools Library Services (SLS) offer unique support, advice and resources to schools, school librarians and teachers.
SLS are run by experienced librarians and offer excellent value for money. Our research shows that working with your local SLS will significantly support teaching, learning and curriculum delivery.

SLS services for schools include:
- Advice and training to develop your school library as an excellent resource to promote a love of reading
- Expertly chosen resources to support teaching and learning, including fiction sets, class reader sets, inclusive and diverse sets, story sacks, language support sets and online access to digital books
- Reading for pleasure events, author visits and book awards
- Pupil librarian training and library skills sessions to enable children to become independent learners and to help schools create a reading culture
Working alongside your local SLS will boost the impact of your school library. If you’re just starting to develop a school library, your SLS can provide tailored support and advice.

SLS UK
To raise the profile of schools library services across the country our members came together and we were a founding partner of SLS UK.
SLS UK is a collective of Schools Library Services covering the length and breadth of the country.
We believe a library is the beating heart of a school reading culture.
Our Schools Library Service research
We commissioned Leeds University to carry out research into the provision of Schools Library Services (SLSs) in England, to understand the service breadth, gaps in provision, different business models, funding arrangements and health of the service across the country.
We requested that strategic evidence also be provided to offer advice for the maintenance and development of a successful SLS.
