Research

We’re on a mission to create libraries for today’s world, spaces where children and young people are compelled to connect.

Fuelled by curiosity and ambition, we undertake research to turn evidence into guidance on how library services can grow to meet the needs and expectations of children, young people and families today. Discover our latest research:

We also work with our partners to gather insights, evidence impact and make the case for support for libraries and Schools Library Services.

We supported the Local Government Association (LGA)’s report, How council library services can support children and families in the earliest years, on how eight library services enhanced the local early years offer, in particular, support for speech, language and communication development. Read the report here.

We have also worked with the Local Government Association, grant funded by Department for Education, to support 12 children’s library workers to develop their skills in engaging with families in the early years. The action research project enabled libraries as a key partner in improving the home learning environment, as part of the wider children’s workforce.

Our partners gather valuable evidence and data. We use this broad evidence base to demonstrate the benefits of libraries for children and young people.

“Libraries are places of living literacy, raising children’s literacy levels and with potential to return a value of up to £60,000 throughout each child’s lifetime.”
