Librarians making plans

Welcome to SparkSpace.

This learning module and toolkit, co-developed with children and young people with diverse lived experiences, explores what it really means to create safe, inclusive and youth-led library spaces.

SparkSpace will help you to…

  • Create inclusive, safe library environments.
  • Make resources accessible for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with children and young people.
  • Motivate their participation.
  • Ensure their voices are heard, both online and in person.

Who is SparkSpace for?

SparkSpace is free to access. It’s for anyone working with or alongside children and young people in libraries. While it focuses on working with young people aged 12+ in libraries, there’s plenty of transferable learning that can be applied to younger children too, and other settings.

SparkSpace has been co-created with a diverse group of young people, working with our members and Participation People. Its development would not have been possible without funding from The Foyle Foundation.
