A library in every primary school by 2029
This week Tabitha Witherick, Chief Executive of Libraries Rising and Lucy Banks our Programme Manager, attended a special event at the House of Lords, celebrating the next chapter of the national campaign to ensure that every primary school in the UK has a library by 2029.
Hosted by Baroness Rebuck DBE, the event marked The Foyle Foundation’s legacy donation to the National Literacy Trust’s Libraries for Primaries programme, which helps schools develop their school libraries with books, resources and staff training.
School Library Services play a key role in supporting schools across the country to create and grow their libraries. They help schools to set up new library spaces, create a collection of books, design reading spaces and offer expert advice so every child can experience the joy of reading at school.
Before the event, the team also visited one of our members at Tower Hamlets Schools Library Services, one of the many School Library Services making a real difference for local schools. A huge thank you to Jacob Turner for showing the team around this treasure trove of books, teaching materials and creative resources.
At Libraries Rising we believe every child deserves equal access to books and a chance to love reading. Working with partners such as the National Literacy Trust, The Foyle Foundation and School Library Services, we are proud to push towards a future where every primary school has a library by 2029.
